Lithuania is part of the Schengen area. Third-country nationals wishing to travel there must hold the appropriate visa, such as a Schengen visa, national visa or transit visa, depending on the purpose and duration of the planned stay.
Travellers wishing to visit Lithuania for a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, for tourism, a family visit, medical care or any other short-term purpose, must hold a Schengen visa. This visa authorises only a temporary stay and does not allow the holder to carry out paid professional activity or receive a salary in Lithuania.
People wishing to stay in Lithuania for more than three months, especially for family reunification, professional activity, studies or any other long-term activity, must submit a national visa application.
Foreign travellers transiting through Lithuania by air before reaching a final destination outside the Schengen area may, under certain conditions, benefit from the transit privilege and be exempt from a visa.
However, when it is necessary to leave the international airport area, change terminal, or when the final destination is inside the Schengen area, the traveller must hold the visa required for their situation and itinerary.

The first step in applying for a Lithuania visa is to complete the VIDEX visa application form. This step is mandatory for all visa types, including tourist, business, medical treatment and family visit visas. Before starting the form, the applicant must have certain essential information, including planned travel dates and the hotel or accommodation address, as this information is required when entering the application.
After completing the VIDEX form, the applicant must create an account on the TLScontact service provider platform. They must also complete an additional form repeating some information already entered in the VIDEX visa application form. Visa applications may be submitted at the earliest six months before the planned travel date.
The visa application file must be submitted in person by the applicant at the TLScontact centre in Rabat. However, applicants who obtained a Lithuanian, Latvian or German visa during the last 59 months and cannot attend in person may authorise a third party to submit the file on their behalf using a duly signed and legalised power of attorney.
